Message from the Design Awards Chair

In this time of economic turmoil, it is refreshing to see that architects are still able to create value for our clients through design excellence.  This years AIA Georgia Design Award submissions included a wide array of projects that ranged from modest rural renovations to vast, complex expansions to airports and stadiums.  The projects represented firms throughout the state and work throughout the nation.  Without exception, all of the projects shared an attention to detail and emphasis on design quality.  It is an impressive snapshot of the breadth of impact of Georgia's Architects.

The jury, led by Max Strang of Strang Architecture in Miami, had a difficult task narrowing down this group of excellent projects.  There was considerable discussion and contemplation involved in selecting honorees. There are certainly many worthy projects that could have been included.  The projects selected for awards represent a wide range of building types, including schools, colleges, offices, public spaces and homes. The projects are located throughout the region and include firms from across the state.  The range in scale, scope and style makes the honorees an excellent representation of the work of Georgia Architects as a whole.

Thanks to all firms who undertook the time and effort to submit projects and especially to the honorees. The award-winning projects are an excellent representation to the public of how architects add value and creativity to projects.  Neil Dawson AIA, LEED AP
