For more than a decade, the American Institute of Architects of Georgia (AIA), Georgia Branch, AGC and the American Council of Engineering Companies of Georgia (ACEC) have hosted an evening reception for our memberships and invited representatives of the legislative and industry‐related governmental agency communities. New this year we are proud to host a full‐day of activities called Building Georgia Legislative Day! Opening the events is a breakfast program hosted by the associations’ young leaders. Following the breakfast there will a guided tour of the Capitol to see the House and Senate in session. Mid‐day we are hosting a networking reception and luncheon featuring remarks by Governor Nathan Deal.

Building Georgia Legislative Day is a great opportunity for the architectural, contractor and engineering communities to meet with each other and visit with legislative and state officials. General and specialty contractors, suppliers and service provider companies, architects, engineers and government and agency representatives will participate. Each member of the General Assembly has also been formally invited to join us throughout the day, and you are encouraged to extend a personal invitation to your legislators to come to the breakfast or lunch as your guest.

NETWORKING RECEPTION AND LUNCHEON AT THE DEPOT

Registration and networking reception begin at 11:00 am. Plated lunch served at 11:30 am. Program concludes at 1:15 pm.
The keynote speakers for this program are Governor Nathan Deal and Doug Callaway, Executive Director of the Georgia Transportation Alliance. Two extremely important issues for Georgia’s future involve transportation funding and workforce development. As Georgia’s economic recovery continues, we must position our state to be ready to move full‐steam ahead and compete for new business with states across the nation. This summer’s TSPLOST referendums in twelve regional commission districts across the state are a critical piece to Georgia’s ability to recruit and sustain future economic growth. Of particular importance to the design/construction community is the ability to actually build our way to the future. The Governor’s recent Go Build Georgia program is part of his Georgia’s Competitiveness Initiative and addresses the skilled labor shortage in our state. Governor Deal will share his perspective on the importance of the T‐SPLOST and the Go Build Georgia program during his remarks. Mr. Callaway will then dive deeper into the TSPLOST and help participants understand why focusing on Georgia’s long term transportation strategy is of utmost importance.
