Our Goal

AIA Georgia members are invited to participate in an energy code workshop. The Georgia DCA Board voted unanimously to approve the proposed energy, residential and commercial codes on 11|14|2018. Those codes will take effect on 01|01|2020.

The goal of this workshop is to review the commercial and residential provisions of the energy code to determine if AIA Georgia should propose any amendments by the 12|15|2018 submittal deadline. This is our last chance to submit an amendment before the energy code becomes effective on 01|01|2020. We need your expertise and input.

Your Role

We’re seeking volunteers in the following occupancy types so please sign-up and recruit your fellow AIA members to help us fill these slots. We want at least one AIA member practitioner per occupancy (we prefer at least three). There’s no limit to the number of AIA member practitioners that can join an occupancy group so invite as many AIA members as you like.

We’ll treat these occupancy groups as standing subcommittees – if we have a question about a code issue, we’ll be able to consult with you via email, webinar or live meeting so you’ll be represented in our advocacy at the Georgia DCA and in our work with other professional associations.

Bring Your Codes!

Attendees should bring: 1) a copy of the 2015 IECC; 2) their respective building code (2018 IBC or 2018 IRC) and; 3) a copy of the amendments adopted by the state. The amendments PDF is very long. If you print it, only print what you need – the sections pertaining to the energy code and your respective building code.

Read the Georgia amendments

If you need to buy a copy of the 2015 IECC, you can find it on the ICC website. We’ve already confirmed discounts are only available to ICC members.

Purchase the 2015 IECC

We strongly encourage you to read through your respective provisions (commercial or residential) in the 2015 IECC and the proposed amendments to your respective building code (2018 IBC or 2018 IRC).

You’re also welcome to bring a copy of the 2018 IECC if you have one because some of the amendment language is from the 2018 IECC. You do not need to bring or buy a copy of the 2018 IECC.

Driving and Dining

Parking will be validated for the Hurt garage and Woodruff Volunteer Center/United Way lots. Also, AIA Georgia will provide a hot lunch for registered participants.

Final Details

Dee Leclair, AIA (AIA Georgia’s IBC Task Force representative) and Ryan Taylor, AIA (AIA GA’s representative on the IECC and IRC Task Forces) will facilitate the meeting. They’ll also assist in the drafting of any proposed amendments to be submitted on behalf of AIA Georgia.

Please represent your office by attending, recruiting other members to attend and asking those who can’t attend what issues need to be addressed. We welcome non-member attendees though we ask you please note you’re not an AIA member during the online registration so we may properly record your attendance.
