Over the past month AIA Georgia has been working closely with our lobbyists, various legislators, and allied organizations to understand, monitor, and track the progress of HB 943.

Status of the Bill

Georgia House Bill 255 has been introduced into the 2015 Session and has moved quickly.  It was introduced into committee in the House in early March, passed there amid a volume of opposition, and then was taken to the floor of the House soon after (where it also passed).  As of March 20th, it awaits a hearing in the Senate Agriculture and Consumer Products Committee – currently set for Monday, March 23rd at 3 PM.

What It Would Do

As currently written, HB 255 would prohibit projects receiving funding from the State of Georgia from pursuing certification from any independent, third party Green Building Certification program (Earthcraft, Green Globe, LEED, Energy Star, etc.) that does not provide equal points/credit for three named sustainable forest management ratings systems (FSC, Sustainable Forestry Initiative, and the American Tree Farm System).
