Beyond the First Year for First Professional Architecture Degree Candidates attending Southern Polytechnic State University

The program assists students during one of their final three years of professional architecture studies at Southern Polytechnic State University.

This scholarship program honors the late John D. Mulford III. John D. Mulford, III was a graduate of Southern Polytechnic State University with a Bachelors degree in Architectural Engineering Technology. After graduation, he served with the multinational peace keeping forces in the Sinai. Upon returning, he settled in Charlotte, North Carolina, where he was associated with a firm as an Intern Architect. During this period of employment he contributed to the design of Miami’s Joe Robbie Stadium, one of the most outstanding sports arenas in the country. In 1992, he joined an architecture firm in Atlanta and became an active Associate member of the AIA. He experienced an untimely death after a brief illness in December 1992.

Eligibility

Professional degree candidates at Southern Polytechnic State University who will be continuing their studies the year following application are eligible to apply. In the academic year of the award, students must be matriculated in the BArch professional NAAB accredited architecture degree program at Southern Polytechnic State University, School of Architecture.

Awards

One scholarship may be awarded annually. Awards may range from $500 to $2,500 depending upon available funding. The scholarship award is based on a 1,000 word (maximum) statement of goals, academic performance, leadership and community involvement, letters of recommendation, design portfolio and demonstrated financial need. The recipient is announced in spring and the scholarship is disbursed prior to the beginning of the next academic year.
